Maximum Allowed Biomass (MTB) is the upper limit for how much living fish (measured in tonnes) a farming operation can have in the sea at any given time. The MTB limit is the primary regulatory tool for Norwegian salmon farming and is set at the license level. A standard license has an MTB of 780 tonnes, while licenses in Troms and Finnmark have 945 tonnes. Exceeding the MTB limit can result in sanctions.
