The Traffic Light System is a regulatory tool introduced in 2017 to manage growth in Norwegian salmon farming based on environmental impact. The Norwegian coast is divided into 13 production areas that are assessed every two years and assigned a colour: green (low impact, 6% growth permitted), yellow (moderate impact, no growth) or red (high impact, 6% reduction required). Sea lice impact on wild fish is the primary indicator.
