Production Areas
Norway's coastline is divided into 13 production areas (PO1–PO13). Each area is regulated through the traffic light system based on the impact of sea lice on wild salmon. Lice data: week 22/2026.
What is the traffic light system?
The traffic light system reviews each production area every two years, based on how much sea lice from salmon farms affect wild salmon. Green allows operators to increase biomass by up to 6%, yellow holds capacity, and red forces a 6% reduction.

The biennial government decision that sets whether biomass may grow, stay flat, or must be reduced.
