The Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) is the ratio between the amount of feed used and the amount of fish growth achieved. An FCR of 1.2 means that 1.2 kg of feed is needed to produce 1 kg of fish growth. Norwegian salmon farming typically has a biological FCR of 1.1-1.3, making salmon one of the most feed-efficient livestock animals. FCR is influenced by feed composition, water temperature, fish health and feeding routines.
