Generation Shift

Generation shift in aquaculture refers to the transition between two production cycles at a site, where one generation of fish is harvested and a new generation of smolt is stocked. Good planning of the generation shift is important to ensure sufficient fallowing, coordination with neighbouring sites and optimal timing relative to biological windows. The generation shift is also a critical point for biosecurity.
