Biomass in an aquaculture context refers to the total weight of living fish at a farm site, usually measured in tonnes. Biomass is a key factor in the regulation of the aquaculture industry through the MTB system (maximum allowed biomass). Accurate biomass estimation is important for feed planning, health monitoring and compliance with license conditions.
