Disease
PD (Pancreas Disease)
Norwegian: PD (Pankreassykdom)
Pancreas Disease (PD) is a viral disease caused by salmonid alphavirus (SAV). The disease attacks the pancreas, cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle of salmon and trout. PD causes reduced appetite, lethargic behaviour and increased mortality. The disease is endemic in large parts of western Norway and causes significant economic losses through reduced growth, increased feed conversion ratio and poorer slaughter quality.
