Cardiomyopathy Syndrome (CMS) is a cardiac disease of Atlantic salmon caused by piscine myocarditis virus (PMCV). The disease typically affects large salmon in the sea phase, often 12-18 months after sea transfer. CMS causes inflammation and necrosis of the heart muscle, which can lead to sudden death. The disease is one of the most prevalent viral heart diseases in Norwegian farming and is often first detected by sudden increased mortality.
